What happened in 2010 This was a good year even though it has started and ended with SNOW! We had some 24 cms in January, the most we have had in one fall since we came to Headley Down. There was a heavy fall on 30 November which nearly prevented the family coming to Simon's birthday dinner on 4 December.; and on Saturday 18th December we had more! In January 2010 I got a distinction from the Royal Photographic Society, and can now put LRPS after my name. For this I had to submit a panel of 10 large mounted photographs to be judged by 5 judges. Judy went with me to their headquarters in Bath to hear their verdict. David worked hard at his flying during the summer months, and got his pilot's licence on 3 August. He then flew his own aeroplane a nuber of times with a pilot from the LAA (Light Aircraft Association) before discovering a fuel fault in one of the wings. So the aeroplane has been grounded for 2 or 3 months waiting for its builder to come down from Norfolk to fix it. What with bad weather and ill health (his not ours) we are still waiting. David being congratulated by his instructor at Goodwood flying school More photos Thomas turned 21 in July. He had a family party in Twickenham to mark the occasion. Also in July Judy and I went to visit Cecily in Ireland for a long weekend. It was cool and rainy, but we enjoyed staying in a cottage near Dingle and walking on the beach. We had a bumper family camp in August with 36 members of the family. Lawrence came from Pretoria and Cecily from Limerick. The weather was the usual indifferent British sort but it was a hugely popular camp thanks to all the available activities. We will be going to the same place this year, so if you want to join us in August just let me know. Photos At the end of August David and I went to France, spending a week in the Pyrenees and one on the Dordogne near Bergerac. The Pyrenees are beautiful, and the weather was good, but we had a bit of rain in the second week. We went in David's new Honda Accord estate which cruises beautifully, and which he thoroughly enjoyed driving. He sold the S2000 sports car because he needs more room to transport his gear when he goes flying. I had a great weekend with James and Nina in June. On the Sunday we all went to Marwell Zoo. |
